Primal Riding, Anyone?

Happy Monday!

Those of you who have been following my Fit to Ride series may be interested in the Primal Blueprint Health Challenge starting today over at Mark's Daily Apple.

Over the past two months, I've done a tremendous amount of reading about the paleo/primal lifestyle. Though I don't agree with every aspect of the primal blueprint and its premise, my experiments with it thus far have been particulary beneficial in terms of fuel intake (I'm already there on the activity side). I'm leaner, stronger, and more energetic than ever before -- and loving every minute.

I'm signed up for the challenge as BarbeyGirl. Anybody want to come along for the ride? (If you do, feel free to share your user name in the comments here so we can follow each other over at MDA.)

Thanks for the link, I want to check it out. I've been doing the raw vegan thing for a couple of weeks, and feel great. If I am going to expect a strict conditioning program for my horse, than I should be willing to do it for myself. A challenge is a great motivator to keep me on track. Keep up the great posts.

Wait. I'm confused. Isn't that diet loaded with animal products?

No problem, BetsN -- I absolutely agree about expecting the same effort from yourself as you do from your horse. :)

You're right, Kim. Paleo/primal eating does include a lot more animal protein than I've been eating for the past 3 years. However, it is still MOSTLY plants (for a lot of people -- certainly not all). I've found that my current level of physical training demands more calories and protein than I can get from plants unless I continue eating a lot of grains and legumes...which I am no longer willing to do, having finally come to understand the impact of carbohydrates on the body. I'll explain this more thoroughly in an upcoming post. :)

I have checked this site out and I am intrigued, I must admit. I think some of this might be the missing piece of the puzzle for me but I am curious about the removal of legumes and beans because of the carbs. Doesn't your diet consist of alot of these types of foods? are you cutting back on those as Mark suggests?
