It was a fantastic ride and I'm glad you enjoyed reading about it. :)

Lori... he is. ;)

Jackie, this behavior does seem to be a pattern in these breeds. Very interesting!

Carol, your words are encouraging, and I thank you. :) As for the Larabars, I get them from a local health food store, the Boise Co-op. I'll bet you could order them online if you had to.Tamara Baysingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15370706745665035429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097335742323121231.post-47035263707456225302009-09-19T00:00:10.799-06:002009-09-19T00:00:10.799-06:00That was a very moving read. Having no choice really, I guess, but to trust in the process and in the horse, you soldiered on, and look!
Now you know you can trust yourself as a trainer, too. I don't know much about endurance, but it's fascinating and reading your blog makes me want to learn more. It sounds like something fun I'd like to try someday. Tamara,...Congratulations on your successful ride!!

Tamara, your courage and steadfast way of handling things continue to amaze and inspire me.

I think I would have become nervous and distracted myself after the whole bridle incident with the other horse.

If I am ever to be a good trail rider, I know that is something I need to work on -- as a rider's horse takes so much mentally from the attitude of the rider. If you are calm, your horse (will) be.....when you are nervous, you end up with a fidgety, nervous horse.

There is not a single doubt in my mind that Consolation's calm attitude toward things had a lot to do with the fact that she had a calm, prepared rider.

Good Job!!!!

Also- one quick question if you don't mind. Where do you find Larabars? I've been working on eating a lot healthier and am looking for healthy snacks to keep with me on the go. I saw the Larabar website, and would like to try them, but can't figure out where to get them....Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01338470216994991027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097335742323121231.post-73529461647064678212009-09-11T22:22:42.609-06:002009-09-11T22:22:42.609-06:00Sounds like it was a great ride--congrats on your ...Sounds like it was a great ride--congrats on your completion!AareneXhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17569818745110332355noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097335742323121231.post-73015566482249583032009-09-11T16:53:53.487-06:002009-09-11T16:53:53.487-06:00Congratulations on a very very good first LD. I thought of JB several times during the ride. :)

Final ride time, hmmm...I missed it during the post-ride meeting, but I think it was in the neighborhood of 5:20. That works out to about 5.75 mph. Sloooow, but as some other riders noted, you can train IN "speed" more easily than you can train OUT "crazy!"Tamara Baysingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15370706745665035429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097335742323121231.post-41067327350286279062009-09-11T13:51:43.081-06:002009-09-11T13:51:43.081-06:00Seeing lots of similarities here between our horse...Seeing lots of similarities here between our horses... they may not be speed demons but solid and steady, even when other horses are acting up all around them..
